Founded in 2007, Red Roots is a center for arts and social change located in the South Bronx. Red Roots coordinates a variety of arts workshops, political events and educational resources to help build sustainable, self-determined communities in New York City.
Red Roots is coordinated by the Red Roots Collective, a group of artists and activists committed to transforming NYC from the bottom up. The collective makes its decisions by consensus, and is in the process of finalizing a governance structure that will include collective members, volunteers and participants in Red Roots programs.
Most Red Roots programs are hosted in a commercial loft space run by Can't Afford 'Em Buttons, a worker-run screenprinting and buttonmaking business whose members are also part of the Red Roots Collective.
